Bringing Joy to Writing Workshop:

10 Practical Ways for Lifting Young Writers & Getting Them Excited About Writing

In this engaging presentation, teachers Megan Sloan and Barry Hoonan will share fresh new ideas on the teaching of writing and the important work of collaborating with students to create a successful writing workshop environment.

Participants / Teachers will learn how to:

  1. Co-construct with their students - agreements, procedures, and routines for a smooth-running workshop;

  2. Incorporate both professional and student-written mentor texts into daily mini-lessons;

  3. Create active writing demonstrations that involve students in the writing process;

  4. Place students in leadership roles to guide and teach fellow classmates.

Come join Megan and Barry in learning about practical strategies that lift student involvement and agency in the daily running of your writing workshop.

And in these difficult times, let’s find ways to have fun, spark the creative, and bring joy to our writing workshop.
